Gillian Tan, writing for Bloomberg after the Dow Jones Industrial Average achieved a new high of 20,000 yesterday, noted the following interesting fact: Goldman Sachs (NYSE: GS) has accounted for almost 20% of the Dow's advance since the US presidential election. GS shares have risen 30% since the election.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average, which consists of just 30 firms, has seen its leading stocks fluctuate since the start of 2017. The following is a list of the top five year-to-date winners compared to the top five winners after the election. There is a commonality among these firms in that they are all global players with a lot riding on the outcome of the negotiations over US trade policy.
